We wish to make your visit here a very special experience in every way, from the surprise of arrival, the programming, the catering and even the cost, which we endeavour to keep special as well!

Numbers – We can seat up to 39 in the cinema itself and this involves the use of an extra front row which is removable for the accommodation of wheelchairs, and other facilities can be arranged as necessary. Without the use of this row, there are 31 fixed seats, and this is a number that has proved ideal when seated catering is required.

Catering – You are welcome to bring your own and use our supervised kitchen facilities. Oven and microwave are available, as are our services to assist where required. We can supply crockery, glassware, platters, bowls, plates, cutlery etc. all of which we clean as required by the terms of our WCC Health Licence. Alternatively, we can supply various forms of catering that vary from just coffee, tea & biscuits, through to a nibbles menu, a lunch, or a light tea.

Visit TimingDaytime Examples

Arrival sometime from 9am  to a 2-part programme of short subjects and an interval for morning tea, followed by the 2nd part of the programme, with departure somewhere around the middle of the day or early afternoon. Or perhaps a slightly later arrival to morning tea to a programme of short subjects/or a feature film followed by either departure or lunch. An additional option is to arrive somewhere around 10.30am to a light morning tea, followed by up to an hour of short subject matter. Then out for lunch around the middle of the day and then back into cinema for a feature film to finish somewhere towards 3pm.

Visit TimingEvening Examples

Arrival from somewhere between 5.30 / 6pm to light refreshments, followed by the first part of catering arrangements, and then, the first part of the film programme which normally involves short subject matter. Out to an interval for second part of catering and then a return to the cinema for a feature film, to conclude by approximately 10.30pm.

Alternatively, arrival could be later, from around 7 / 7.30pm with a feature film at about 8pm followed by supper from around 10pm. If time permits, and this can be dependent on the length of the feature film, the programme could start with approximately 30 mins of shorts followed by an interval for supper, the feature to follow and to conclude by approximately 10.30pm.

Please Note All the above are examples only and are the most popular options exercised by groups who visit us. We can vary the timing and format of programming to suit requirements.

Costs – Daytime self-catered visits during the week $275; Evening & during the weekend self-catered, $350. For visits where no catering or refreshments are served i.e. programme only, deduct $100 from above prices. We will where possible, subsidise various voluntary organisations, retirement homes, elderly friendship groups and fund-raising events. Please enquire. School age birthday parties $240 (including our provision for basic BYO catering) during the week and at the weekend. Cancellations, if given at such short notice that a replacement booking cannot be made, may attract a cancellation fee. Early stage communication with concerns of low numbers could help to avoid this occurring.

Our Catering – Coffee, Tea, Orange Juice and Iced Water are complimentary in addition to our previously mentioned services for occasions where catering is required. Morning and afternoon teas, along with suppers are from approximately $4 to $10 p.p. Light lunch or tea, also nibbles, from $15.

Planning – To have the right day and time, you need to plan as far ahead as possible to fit with our availability, and too, with those of your group, organisation or guests etc. who may already be filling spaces in their diaries up to 8 weeks or more ahead. Fundraisers need to pre-sell and receive payment for their tickets, keeping in mind that under these circumstances, it is unusual for refunds to be required by those who find that for some reason, they are unable to attend.

Programming – Our own library of titles allows for a very wide choice of feature and short film material, almost totally of a nostalgic nature and mainly before the period of the 1970’s. Suggestions of a feature film title from organisers is welcomed, and where possible, we will accommodate this or offer a close alternative. Where this proves to be a difficulty, on confirmation of a booking, we can supply a list of several hundred suggestions. We also have a very large number of short film subjects, including newsreels, comedies, local and NZ nostalgia, pictorial parades etc, and a normal start to our programme includes some old commercials and ‘Queen’. Selection of this material can fit with a birthday occasion, group interests, etc. and also as a 1st half programme before the main feature.

Payment – Deposits are not required, we operate on mutual trust. We do request payment – by cheque or cash – during or on completion of the booked event. We do not operate eftpos or credit card facilities due to costs as we always endeavour to keep any charges we make to a minimum.  It may seem a little behind the times, but that is in line with everything we do, including even our price structure, we hope! All prices quoted include GST when payments are made as per our policy.  To assist where corporate or other policy operates outside ours, direct credit or advanced invoicing can be facilitated by request, but in such cases the addition of GST costing maybe necessary.  All these endeavours are designed so that we are able to minimise the time and cost involved in accounting etc., and thus be able to maximise the time we can give to programming movies & providing affordable fun!
